According to the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5) report released in 2019, 66.4% of women in India are anemic. This survey was conducted in 22 states and union territories of the country.

Hemoglobin takes oxygen from the lungs and transports it to every organ. It is considered necessary for an adult human being to have 4 to 5 liters of blood in his body.

What does hemoglobin do?

According to health experts, the main function of hemoglobin is to deliver oxygen to every tissue of the body. Hemoglobin keeps releasing oxygen by forming a bond with it. If there is more or less oxygen in any part of the body, then hemoglobin balances it. Hemoglobin transports carbon dioxide from cells to the lungs.

How much hemoglobin should be there in the blood of men and women?

The RBC in a man’s body should contain 13.2-16.6 grams of hemoglobin per deciliter.

The RBC in a woman’s body should contain 11.6-15.0 grams of hemoglobin per deciliter.

According to WHO, about 128 crore people around the world are suffering from the problem of high blood pressure (Hypertension). Their age is 30-79 years. Of these, 46 percent are people who don’t even know about it.

21-25 years – 115/70

26-30 years – 113/71

31-35 years – 110/72

36-40 years – 112/74

41-45 years – 116/73

46-50 years – 124/78

51-55 years – 122/74

56-60 years – 132/78

61-65 years – 130/77
